31st Annual Kinney Drugs Edward I. Moses Walk/Run/Bike for Life held April 26, 2009.

Partly cloudy skies and cool
weather did not deter 322 participants, in the 31st
Annual Edward I. Moses Walk/Run for Life on Sunday
as they collectively raised over $86,000 in the St.
Lawrence County fight against cancer. Willing and
helpful committee members and extra support
personnel insured a smoothly run event that brings
the total amount of money raised in this annual
event to $950,000.
St.
Lawrence University was a perfect host as 22 people
surpassed the $1000 mark with Elaine Perry winning
the Douglas C. Hartson Sr. award as the top fund
raiser turning in $11,100. Robert Porter, Sami
Curtis, Charles Saidel, Jodi Hopsicker, Melissa
Murdie, Warren Dyke, Beulah Ritchie, Sylvia Bell,
Tina Hall, Jean Hayes, Ed Mackey Jr., Karen Perry,
Jane Dyke, Mark Brackett, Louden Porter, Mattigan
Porter, Declan Porter, James Moses, Carrie Porter,
Elaina Porter, and Wyatt Porter were the other
participants reaching the $1000 level.
Team
participation was very evident as victims of cancer
were remembered by relatives, friends, and
neighbors. Teams included: Ryan’s Team(Ryan Saidel),
the 30 Milers, Team Terri(Curtis), Team Eric(Murdie),
Governeur Correctional(Roger Yelle), The Hopping
Campers, The Stumps(Douglas C. Hartson Sr.), Perry
Family Team(William LaShomb), Rita’s Rooters(Rita
Clarke), Walking with Walt(Walter O. Zeller
Jr.),Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Team Garrow(Duane
Garrow), VFW Ladies Aux #1231, TOPS 102, Team NYSARC,
Gouverneur Business Women, Edwards Knox Softball
Team, DA Kine Group, Team Claxton Hepburn, Cerebral
Palsy of North Country, Team Bonnie Cunningham,
BOCES, Richard E. Winter Cancer Treatment Center
Team, Team Petries, Team SPORT, Michela’s
Team(Chapin), Massena Memorial Hospital, Hospice of
St. Lawrence Valley, Seaway Area Tech Team, and
Hermon Dekalb School Team.
Charles
Saidel won the Roscoe Stowell Jr. Award (Most money
raised by a student), Sami Curtis Won the Duane
Garrow award (top fundraiser 12 years or younger),
the Ryan Saidel award for top school won by
Gouverneur Central, Seaway Area Tech Center won 2nd
place school (Bonnie Hayden Award), Sylvia Bell won
the Shirley Kirk award top Kinney Drugs fundraiser,
Kinney store # 10 Massena retained the Taylor Cup,
and Elaine Perry and Jodi Hopsicker received the
Terri Curtis Award for having raised more than
$10,000 in their years of participation. Twenty five
grand prizes were won by: Brittany Grant, Tina Hall,
Sami Curtis, Carrie Porter, Sherri Love, Jessica
Zeller, Melissa Murdie, Karen Perry, Megan Gilbert,
Glenn Perry, Mark Brouillette, David Law, Dennis
Cornelius, Elaine Perry, Jan Lightfoot, Kamrie
Dandrow, Jean Hayes, Jodi Hopsicker, Mike Ober,
Brittany Coffey, Gordon Perry, Declan Porter, Jane
Dyke, and Charles Saidel. The annual Gator donated
by LeBerge & Curtis John Deere was won by Zach
Hartson.
The committee thanks all
participants, especially the donors, the many
business sponsors of the event, and all the people
that provided support to the participants. Please
